Looking Back at 2010...

Greensboro Roller Derby was founded by Molly Flogger in February of 2010. The first meeting brought together a group of diverse individuals who were enthusiastic about starting a roller derby league. By early spring, the beginnings of Greensboro Roller Derby (GSORD) had formed and organized practices were taking place at a local rink in High Point, NC. Working through the summer, GSORD hosted several fundraisers and events to raise money and awareness for our debut bout, Brains vs. Fangs, in late October.
At each of our events, we donate a portion of our proceeds to charity.  Because of the support of our fans, local artists and sponsors, we have been able to donate several thousand dollars to the Often Awesome Army  (www.oftenawesome.org), the Jim "Catfish" Hunter Chapter of the ALS Association (www.catfishchapter.org) , The Lupus Foundation of America Piedmont Chapter (www.lupus.org), the Walk Now for Autism Speaks Foundation (www.walknowforautismspeaks.org), Toys for Tots (http://www.toysfortots.org), Family Service of the Piedmont (www.familyservice-piedmont.org) and other charities.
Approaching the New Year, the growth of GSORD allowed the league to form into three home teams: Battleground Betties, Elm Street Nightmares, the Mad Dollies, and one travel team: the Gate City Roller Girls. While the Gate City Roller Girls represent GSORD as a whole, the home teams battle one another for the GSORD Championship Title every year.

Derby love,
Jess the Ripper, Pomona Bomber, and Brody Slaughterhouse
